WHEREAS, after 12 years as chief of the Strasburg Police Department, Marshall A. Robinson has announced his retirement from an exemplary 45-year career in law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, from 1961 to 1964 during the time of the construction of the Berlin wall, Marshall Robinson served his country in Germany as a member of the military police; and.

WHEREAS, Marshall Robinson began his law-enforcement career with the Strasburg Police Department in 1965, obtaining the rank of sergeant before joining the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office in 1970 as an investigator; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Robinson served as the sheriff of Shenandoah County from 1980 to 1995 and became chief of the Strasburg Police Department in 1996; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in law enforcement, Marshall Robinson has been committed to ensuring the safety and security of Shenandoah County and the Town of Strasburg, but his greatest interest and most lasting contribution to the community has been his constant and sincere efforts to have his officers educate and counsel young people, especially high school students; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Robinson has been a mentor to many new police officers, other public servants, and first responders in the course of his long service as police chief; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to protecting and serving Virginia's citizens and enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, Marshall Robinson has been an able, hard-working administrator and an experienced law-enforcement officer who is respected by his loyal staff and officers; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Robinson has been active in civic organizations, devoted to the future of the Shenandoah County and Strasburg community, and committed to the well-being of all of its residents; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement, Marshall Robinson will greatly enjoy farming and spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Marshall A. Robinson for his 45 years of outstanding public service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marshall A. Robinson as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his commitment to law enforcement and the citizens of the Commonwealth and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
