SJ411: Commending the Louisa County High School football team
WHEREAS, the 2006 Louisa County High School Lions football team had its best season ever in 2006, appearing in its first Virginia High School League, Group AA, Division 4 state championship game at Williams Stadium on the campus of Liberty University; and
WHEREAS, Louisa County High School (13-0) was matched with a strong Amherst County High School team (12-1) and fell just short in its first ever state finals game; and
WHEREAS, a huge crowd of enthusiastic Louisa County fans turned out to support its high school in its first state championship bid in Lynchburg, and the Lions gave it their all, but the powerful Amherst County High School Lancers prevailed in a tough game, 34-27; and
WHEREAS, on their way to the state championship appearance, the Louisa County High School Lions recorded several school football records, winning the Jefferson District championship and adding a regional championship win over undefeated Harrisonburg High School, followed by an even more exciting semifinal victory over perennial football state finalist Powhatan High School; and
WHEREAS, the Lions have a lot to be proud of in their exceptional 2006 season, their title as regional champions, and their appearance in the state title game, which is a great tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Mark Fischer and his staff; and the overwhelming support of the students and faculty of Louisa County High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Lions from Louisa County High School on their outstanding 2006 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Mark Fischer as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the Louisa County High School Lions' hard work and dedication.
