SJ429: Celebrating the life of Judge Perry Wilson Sarver, Sr.
WHEREAS, Judge Perry Wilson Sarver, Sr., of Strasburg, a respected citizen and retired judge of the 26th District Court, died on December 27, 2006; and
WHEREAS, a native of Christiansburg, Perry Sarver was born to Thelma Clara Hockman and Lacy Wilson Sarver on March 9, 1931; and
WHEREAS, Perry Sarver received a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, earned a law degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Perry Sarver maintained a private practice of law in Woodstock for 21 years, served as attorney for the Commonwealth in Shenandoah County, and became a substitute judge in the Shenandoah County General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts; and
WHEREAS, Perry Sarver was appointed to the 26th Circuit Court, where he was a member of the bench for 23 years, serving the communities of Winchester and Warren County; and after retiring as a full-time judge, he continued to serve as a substitute judge until 2005; and
WHEREAS, Judge Sarver was committed to his community and his profession and was an active member of the Virginia Bar Association and a former president of the Shenandoah County Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, always concerned with the well-being of his fellow citizens, Judge Sarver was a faithful member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and
WHEREAS, Judge Sarver will be fondly remembered for his fairness on the bench and his kind and generous nature and greatly missed by his devoted wife Carol, his daughters, Melissa and Melinda, and son, P. W. Sarver, Jr., his seven wonderful grandchildren, and his numerous other loving family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine jurist and outstanding Virginian, Judge Perry Wilson Sarver, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Judge Perry Wilson Sarver, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
