WHEREAS, Eleanor Rogers White, a beloved, respected, and active citizen, is recognized for her exemplary life and service to the community of Annandale on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and
WHEREAS, born on February 2, 1907, in Franconia, Eleanor White will happily celebrate her 100th birthday with her family and friends on February 2, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor Rogers married Lloyd Franklin White in Washington, D.C., on August 10, 1930, and the couple had three wonderful children, Donald, Charlotte, and Kenneth, and were blessed with 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and to date two great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, devoted to her family and especially attentive to its young members, Eleanor White, an accomplished bridge player, taught most of her grandchildren to play a variety of card games; and
WHEREAS, an avid gardener and lover of flowers, Eleanor White specialized in the growing of chrysanthemums, was asked by the Annandale Florist to supply its shop with her beautiful specimens, and had a special purple variety of Gladiola named in her honor; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Eleanor White has been an enthusiastic participant in the Fairfax County Fair Food Contest and has won blue ribbons for nearly all of her entries; and
WHEREAS, Eleanor White, a faithful member of Annandale United Methodist Church, has been active in its many missions, and has proven invaluable in raising the funds to build and improve the church in its service to the community; and
WHEREAS, committed to her community, Eleanor White has been an inspiration to her family and her many admirers in Annandale, who continue to benefit from her wisdom and experience; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby congratulate Eleanor Rogers White on a century of love and commitment to her family and her fellow citizens; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eleanor Rogers White as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for future health and happiness.
