SJ433: Commending the Hidden Valley High School women's varsity soccer team
WHEREAS, the 2006 Hidden Valley High School women's varsity soccer team capped an outstanding season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AA girls' state soccer championship; and
WHEREAS, the Hidden Valley High School Titans (19-2-4) gave the Charlottesville Black Knights their only loss of the season and claimed the girls' state soccer crown in the championship finals held on June 10, 2006, at Radford University; and
WHEREAS, in their first state final appearance, the tenacious Hidden Valley Titans, the Region III runner-up, beat out both the Region IV champions of Abingdon High School with a score of 4-1 and the Region III champions of Blacksburg High School with a score of 1-0; and
WHEREAS, the Titans played a thrilling game against a tough Charlottesville team, with Kelsey Ballard scoring one goal and Rebecca Danahy scoring two goals and Erica Troia in as goalkeeper; and
WHEREAS, all of the 2006 Hidden Valley Titans made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort in the championship games and throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2006 Hidden Valley Titans is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Roy Lax and his staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Hidden Valley High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Titans from Hidden Valley High School on their outstanding 2006 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Roy Lax as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2006 Hidden Valley High School girls' soccer team.
