WHEREAS, Johnnie Lee Bell Bunch of Newport News, respected citizen and dedicated educator and administrator for the Hampton University's School of Nursing, died on January 28, 2007; and

WHEREAS, a native of Durham, North Carolina, Johnnie Bunch lived and worked in Hampton Roads for over 30 years; she was married to the late Dr. Theodore R. Bunch; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Bunch was an assistant professor of nursing at Hampton University and most recently served as the School of Nursing’s clinical coordinator; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Bunch was an excellent instructor and role model, and over the years, she trained her beloved students to become committed, well-trained nurses, providing a vital service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Bunch was a faithful member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church and was active in the church's many missions in the community, giving her time and talents to the church Missionary Society and the Health Care Ministry; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Bunch worked diligently to help her fellow residents as an active member of many civic, professional, and social organizations, and she was honored with numerous awards for her volunteerism and leadership; and

WHEREAS, Johnnie Bunch will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and greatly missed by her three loving children, her four wonderful grandchildren, a host of other family members and friends, and the congregation of the Bethel A.M.E. Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated educator and outstanding Virginian, Johnnie Lee Bell Bunch; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Johnnie Lee Bell Bunch as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
