WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Sergeant Joshua J. Frazier, aged 24, of Spotsylvania, died in the line of duty while on patrol in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, on February 6, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Frazier was a proud member of United State Marine Corps, Company A, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and had served a tour in Afghanistan and two in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, a 2000 Spotsylvania High School graduate, Joshua Frazier enjoyed life and loved to have fun, and he cared about his family, his friends, and his godson, seven-year-old Xavier, the child of Michelle, a longtime high school friend; and

WHEREAS, scheduled to return home to the United States in April, Joshua Frazier had recently been promoted to sergeant and had decided to serve a third tour of duty stationed in Iraq so that he might “keep his men safe”; and

WHEREAS, a strong-willed and responsible young man, Sergeant Frazier always put family first, and he felt the same responsibility and loyalty to the soldiers that he commanded; he was especially close to his older brother, Aaron; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Frazier was an avid gun collector, as well as loved everything Spider-Man, and was a great supporter of his community and a role model for his many friends in Spotsylvania County; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Frazier will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his mother, Shelia Cutshall, and father, Rick Frazier, and numerous other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, the tremendous loss of Sergeant Frazier is a reminder of the grave danger our devoted men and women of the armed forces face every day in loyal service to their country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby mourn the death of a courageous Marine and patriotic Virginian, Sergeant Joshua J. Frazier; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Joshua J. Frazier as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
