SJ525: Commending the Clarke County High School boys' outdoor track team.
WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School boys' outdoor track team won the Virginia High School League Group A state championship on June 3, 2006, besting 47 schools from around the state; and
WHEREAS, the Clarke County Eagles dominated the middle-distance races and finished the event with 73 points, nearly doubling the score of second-place winner Middlesex who had 38 points; and
WHEREAS, the victory was especially sweet because the Eagles were runners-up in 2005, and it was the first boys' state title for Coach Nancy Specht, in her 10th year coaching the boys' team; and
WHEREAS, junior Simon Biddle-Snead led the Eagles, winning his third straight title in the 3200 meters and coming in second in the 1600-meter race; and behind him in the 1600 were freshman Ben Veilleux in third place, senior Michael Leonard in fourth place, and junior Daniel Callan in fifth place; and
WHEREAS, Michael Leonard pushed his teammate Simon Biddle-Snead in the 3200, but had to settle for a second place finish, while Ben Veilleux finished fourth in the 3200; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Callan won the 800-meter race in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory, and senior Nathan Brown finished third in the triple jump, missing tying the school record by a mere half inch; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding performance of the 2006 Clarke County boys' outdoor track team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the team members; the leadership of Coach Nancy Specht and her staff; and the support of the students, faculty, and parents of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Clarke County High School team on its Virginia High School League Group A state outdoor track championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Nancy Specht as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the triumphant performance of the 2006 Clarke County Eagles.
