HB375: School students, nonpublic; participation in interscholastic sports.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Chapter 1 of Title 22.1 a section numbered 22.1-7.1 as follows:
§ 22.1-7.1. Participation in public school interscholastic activities by nonpublic school students.
Any nonprofit corporation founded in Virginia in 1913 to organize and govern interscholastic activities among the public high schools shall develop, implement, and enforce an exception to its rules addressing enrollment and the eligibility of regular, bona fide students for participation in interscholastic activities. Such exception shall provide eligibility for participation in interscholastic sports by any nonpublic school student who is eligible for free tuition in such public school pursuant to § 22.1-3 and shall be limited to participation in interscholastic activities at the school serving the attendance zone in which such student lives.
