HB568: Tractor-trailer combinations; local ordinances prohibiting use of certain highways.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 1 of Chapter 2 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-228.2 as follows:
§ 33.1-228.2. Local ordinance may prohibit use of certain highways by tractor-trailer combinations; penalty.
Notwithstanding any contrary provision of law, the governing body of any county, city, or town may by ordinance prohibit the use of any highway within the boundaries of the county, city, or town by tractor-trailer combinations when, in the sole judgment of the local governing body, tractor-trailer combinations are unable safely to negotiate such highway. The provisions of this section shall include but not be limited to highways within public parks.
The penalty for violating any ordinance adopted pursuant to this section shall not exceed that of a traffic infraction.
