I find this fee will be another block in the progress on re-entry into society for these sex offenders. Most have only a small window in which to register upon release -usually 9-10 days. Majority of these offenders have not gotten a job as of yet and do not have the money to pay the fee when they have to register. The first time should be free and if a fee is necessary it should be a minimum of $5.00. Majority of Sex offenders have enough trouble getting jobs and jobs that pay enough for them to support themselves. We don't want them not registering due to a fee that they are not able to pay for. The government keeps dumping more and more rules and restrictions on the sex offenders and are not thinking how in the long run these rules will be implemented or carried thru. What is the purpose of rehabing and spending money for these inmates if you don't give them the chance they need to have a life that will not be a burden on society or the tax payers. Once they are released statistics show there is a very low recend or repeat offense and they shouldn't be punished twice for the same crime. Not all sex offenders with this label have raped, molested, murdered, or engaged in actions with a child.Putting a fee on registration will be another hardship on the government and sex offender. If they can't pay, then what? Back in jail and at what cost to us-the tax payers. Be real!
