WHEREAS, William Baldwin Bynum of Nassawadox, a respected citizen and outstanding educator and coach for 42 years, died on June 26, 2007; and

WHEREAS, William "Bill" Baldwin Bynum was born to the late Jacqueline Parsons Dunton and Henry Scarborough Dunton; he graduated from Northampton High School in 1961 and earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Military Institute as a graduate of the Class of 1965; and

WHEREAS, Bill Bynum dedicated his distinguished 42-year career in education to teaching, coaching, and as an administrator at Broadwater Academy in Exmore; and

WHEREAS, committed to providing quality education to all of Virginia's young people, Bill Bynum touched the lives of hundreds of the Eastern Shore's future leaders, professionals, and outstanding citizens; and

WHEREAS, Bill Bynum's Broadwater Academy football teams were consistently state championship contenders and was state runner-up in 1994 and state champions in 2000 team; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary coach and mentor to his students, Bill Bynum was selected Virginia Commonwealth Conference Football Coach of the Year in 1994 and again in 2000; and

WHEREAS, the William B. Bynum Endowment, honoring Bill Bynum's legacy of excellence in education, has been established to aid the faculty at his beloved Broadwater Academy; and

WHEREAS, Bill Bynum was honored with many awards and accolades over the years for his community service, including receiving the prestigious Community Builders Award by the Masons in 2002 for his significant efforts toward making the community a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, Bill Bynum was a faithful member of the Franktown Methodist Church, as well as a supporter of Hungars Episcopal Church, and was active in the churchs' many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Bill Bynum will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his kind and generous nature and greatly missed by his wife of 27 years Barbara "Bobbie" H. Bynum; his father Henry Dunton and wife Bertha; his son William "Win" Bynum, Jr.; his stepson Edward "Ned" Gladstone and his family; countless other loving family members and friends; and the citizens of the Eastern Shore; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the passing of an outstanding educator and Virginia gentleman, William Baldwin Bynum; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Baldwin Bynum as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
