HJ143: Commending the Edward H. Nabb Research Center.
WHEREAS, in 2007, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture, which preserves documents relating to the Eastern Shore, celebrated 25 years of exemplary service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the repository was begun by G. Ray Thompson, Ph.D., and Sylvia Bradley, Salisbury University professor emeritus, when they started to collect a wealth of materials on the rich and diverse history and culture of the Delmarva region, and their efforts evolved into the invaluable repository housed at the center today for all to utilize and enjoy; and
WHEREAS, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center, located at Salisbury University, was endowed by attorney and philanthropist, Edward H. Nabb of Cambridge, Maryland, and was established to provide a "laboratory for history"; and
WHEREAS, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center's mission is to cultivate and sustain the advancement of scholarly research through collecting, preserving, disseminating, and providing access to records and artifacts that illustrate the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Eastern Shore and the greater Delmarva region; and
WHEREAS, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center is open to all scholars, historians, and genealogists researching the region of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland; and
WHEREAS, an excellent centralized repository of historical documents, the Edward H. Nabb Research Center serves the citizens of all three states and history researchers from across the nation; business professionals, including lawyers, surveyors, and journalists; and students and scholars researching material for doctoral dissertations, master's degree theses, and school projects; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Edward H. Nabb Research Center on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Edward H. Nabb Research Center as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to the organization for its commitment to the preservation of the history and culture of the Eastern Shore and the Delmarva region.
