HJ146: Commending the Chantilly High School cheerleading squad.
Patrons-- Caputo, Hull, Marsden, Scott, J.M. and Watts; Senators: Barker, Cuccinelli, Herring and Ticer
WHEREAS, the 2007 Chantilly High School cheerleading squad triumphed as the Virginia High School League Group AAA state cheerleading champions; and
WHEREAS, winning their first state championship, the Chantilly High School Chargers competed against the top high school cheerleading squads in the state, including three outstanding Northern Region teams; and
WHEREAS, since its establishment in 1997, the hard-working and talented Chantilly High School cheerleading team has consistently appeared in and won Northern Region competitions and has placed third at the state championship five times; and
WHEREAS, the Chargers' winning performance was an action-packed and perfectly executed three minutes of cheers, dance, stunts and gymnastics, earning the squad a remarkable 281 points before an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, the championship title is especially sweet, coming in Jim Kelly's 12th and final year as the Charger squad's head coach; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Chantilly High School cheerleading team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Jim Kelly and his staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Chantilly High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Chargers chearleading squad from Chantilly High School on winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Jim Kelly on behalf of the Chargers as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the hard work and championship performance of the 2007 Chantilly High School cheerleading squad.
