HJ16: Celebrating the life of Garry Harrison Clatterbuck.
WHEREAS, Garry Harrison Clatterbuck of Hopewell, a respected citizen and an admired public servant, died on June 12, 2007; and
WHEREAS, born on April 11, 1935, Garry Clatterbuck grew up and attended school in Hopewell and proudly served his country for six years in the Virginia National Guard as a member of Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 176th Infantry Division, being honorably discharged as a sergeant first class; and
WHEREAS, Garry Clatterbuck found his life's calling in service to his fellow citizens in emergency management services (EMS) as a community leader and advocate, an emergency management technician (EMT), and an instructor; and
WHEREAS, as a 38-year employee of Hercules, Inc., in Hopewell, Garry Clatterbuck was instrumental in implementing a Red Hat early medical response software program to protect his fellow workers; and
WHEREAS, in April 1961, Garry Clatterbuck joined the Hopewell Emergency Crew, and over the years, he served in numerous leadership positions, including as captain; and
WHEREAS, among his many EMS achievements, Garry Clatterbuck became a first aid instructor, an EMT and CPR instructor, and one of the first four trained cardiac technicians for the Hopewell Emergency Crew; he was awarded life membership in the organization in recognition of his many years of exceptional service; and
WHEREAS, after serving in numerous important leadership roles at the district and statewide level, Garry Clatterbuck was elected president of the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, Inc., in 1983, and was honored for his steadfast commitment to EMS with a life membership in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Garry Clatterbuck was a revered member and first president of both the Crater EMS Council and the Old Dominion EMS Alliance, and he was instrumental in the creation of the Prince George Emergency Crew; and
WHEREAS, Garry Clatterbuck was named Volunteer of the Year and Senior Citizen of the Year in 1995 by the Hopewell Jaycees and was honored in the organization's Senior Citizen Hall of Fame in 1998; and
WHEREAS, an inspiration to his fellow members of the EMS community, Garry Clatterbuck will be remembered for his many contributions to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Hopewell and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, foremost a dedicated husband and father, Garry Clatterbuck and Sylvia, his beloved wife of 51 years, raised two wonderful daughters, Holly and Lori; and
WHEREAS, Garry Clatterbuck will be greatly missed by his devoted wife; his daughters and their families, especially his two precious granddaughters Cameron and McKay; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the passing of a fine public servant and an outstanding Virginian, Garry Harrison Clatterbuck; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Garry Harrison Clatterbuck as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
