HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 202 Offered January 10, 2008 Commending the Fishburne Military School rifle team. ---------- Patrons-- Landes; Senator: Hanger ----------

WHEREAS, the Fishburne Military School rifle team finished its season with a perfect record of 6 - 0, winning the Virginia military school state championship on November 1, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Fishburne Military School Caissons scored 2,057 points to defeat Hargrave Military Academy for the state title; and

WHEREAS, the 2007 championship win is the fifth state title in the last eight seasons for the Fishburne Military School rifle team; and

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Jim Hensley, the team’s head coach, noted that not only did the team take home the league championship in order to go to the state tournament, but the Caissons set a new school record of 1,053 points in their victory over Massanutten Military Academy on October 25, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Fishburne Military School led the Virginia Rifle League in season records for returning shooters, prone position, and kneeling; and

WHEREAS, in Virginia Rifle League competition, a score of 300 points in a match is perfect, and five of Caisson’s shooters averaged 240 points; the team as a whole scored an amazing 6,092 total points during the season, which was 124 points greater than their nearest opponent in the league; and

WHEREAS, the Caisson’s five outstanding seniors are Alex Herbert, Robert Parker, Nick McGill, Jim Coll, and Matt Ferguson, and underclassmen Josh Wright, Matt Tisdelle, and Alex Macavoy are expected to return to the rifle team for the 2008 season; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Caissons is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the rifle team members; the leadership of Head Coach Jim Hensley and his staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Fishburne Military School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Caissons rifle team from Fishburne Military School on its outstanding 2007 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to First Sergeant Jim Hensley, the team’s head coach, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2007 Fishburne Military School rifle team.
