Commending the Hanover High School football team.

----------

WHEREAS, the 2007 Hanover High School football team captured the Virginia High School League Group AAA Central Region, Division 5 championship; and

WHEREAS, the Hanover High School Hawks, with only a five-year-old program and little playoff experience, defeated Patrick Henry, a veteran football school that has been to the postseason countless times; and

WHEREAS, the Hawks defeated the Patrick Henry Patriots, 24 - 7, to capture Hanover High School’s first regional title and a berth in the state semifinals; and

WHEREAS, with a record of 5 - 5 last season, the Hawks, 9 - 3 in 2007, worked hard all year long, and their discipline and commitment to the game paid off against the Patriots; and

WHEREAS, Rachel Moore kicked a 27-yard field goal in the first half, and the Hawks defense held the Patriots to a single touchdown with Kenny Fryman and Steven Fogleman making key tackles, Jacob Kain and Derek Crytser recovering Patriot fumbles, and Blake Jones sacking the quarterback; and

WHEREAS, the Hawks’ Jayquan Kates helped move the offense down the field, along with quarterback Josh Wells and running backs Kirk Rohle and Terrell Tinsley, who each scored touchdowns in the second half; and

WHEREAS the Hanover High School football team barely managed to defeat Patrick Henry High School 29 - 28 in its first game of the season, so a second thrilling victory over the powerhouse Patriots was especially sweet for the Hawks; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Hanover High School football team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Josh Just and his staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Hanover High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Hawks from Hanover High School as the Central Region, Division 5 champions; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Josh Just as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the Hanover High School Hawks’ championship performance and outstanding 2007 season.
