WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang, a senior at Deep Run High School and a member of the Wildcats volleyball team, was honored as the Gatorade State Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang's sterling, record-setting career at Deep Run High School concluded on a high note with the Wildcats clinching the Virginia High School League Group AAA state girls' volleyball championship at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center on November 15, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang was named co-player of the year in the Colonial District in 2005 and set a state record of 42 digs in a single match when the Wildcats finished second in the state to Douglas Freeman High School that year; and

WHEREAS, during her outstanding high school volleyball career, Alyssa Lang established five school records and set state records for the most digs in a high school career, in a single season, as well as in a match; and

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang had an outstanding final year with the Wildcats, playing nearly perfect in the regional and state tournaments, tallying 442 digs, 84 aces, and 278 kills over the 2007 season; and

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang was also named to the Girls Volleyball Central Region First Team and the Colonial District First Team in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Allysa Lang's influence on the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team went far beyond the physical aspects of the game by motivating her teammates to be mentally tough throughout the regular season and postseason; and

WHEREAS, Alyssa Lang has decided to attend the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, where she will continue her volleyball career; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Alyssa Lang on her exciting high school volleyball performances and her 2007 Gatorade State Player of the Year award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alyssa Lang as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of her extraordinary talents and her commitment to the sport of volleyball and best wishes for continued success in the future.
