WHEREAS, Susan Worley, a long-time staff writer for Pittsylvania County's Star-Tribune and a dedicated community volunteer, is the recipient of Gretna's 2007 Citizen of the Year award; and

WHEREAS, Gretna's Citizen of the Year sponsored by the Merchants Association of Gretna honors outstanding volunteers in the community; and

WHEREAS, Susan Worley received the distinguished award at the Merchants Association of Gretna's gala annual dinner on December 6, 2007; and

WHEREAS, a native of Climax, Susan Worley graduated from Gretna High School, received an education degree from Averett College, and taught for Pittsylvania County Public Schools for many years before becoming a journalist, first with the Altavista Journal and then with the Star-Tribune; and

WHEREAS, since 1990, Susan Worley has been an exemplary reporter for the Star-Tribune, covering the county schools and school board meetings, the Gretna Town Council, and other community activities; and

WHEREAS, a talented writer, Susan Worley has been recognized by the Virginia Press Association for her outstanding feature stories for the Star-Tribune; and

WHEREAS, praised for her innovative leadership and hard work as a volunteer and organizer, Susan Worley is always willing to tackle any job or obstacle to make community events a tremendous success for her fellow residents; and

WHEREAS, Susan Worley is an active member of the Merchants Association of Gretna and is an invaluable organizer for the annual Old Timers' Jubilee, Christmas parade, and Fourth of July events; and

WHEREAS, fellow volunteers credit Susan Worley for her "sharp eye for detail, great organizational skills, and a wonderful ability to lead"; and

WHEREAS, a community supporter with boundless energy and enthusiasm, Susan Worley is also a member of the Pittsylvania Historical Society, Chatham First, and a number of other civic organizations; and

WHEREAS, Susan Worley is dedicated to the Town of Gretna, her fellow citizens, as well as her very supportive family and friends, and she is a great asset to the Merchants Association of Gretna and the community of Gretna; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Susan Worley on her well-deserved recognition as Gretna's 2007 Citizen of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Susan Worley as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her commitment to the citizens of the Town of Gretna and Pittsylvania County.
