WHEREAS, Catherine Carson Rigg, a college junior from Wise, was recently crowned Miss Virginia Association of Fairs 2008; and

WHEREAS, having won the Miss VA-KY District Fair title last summer, Catherine Carson Rigg gained entry into the state pageant where she competed against 26 other women for the title; and

WHEREAS, as the reigning Miss Virginia Association of Fairs, Catherine Carson Rigg will spend the summer traveling around the state as a guest of the various county fairs; and

WHEREAS, a pre-pharmacy major at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise who volunteers to read in local classrooms and in reading labs to eager 3-to-5-year-olds, Catherine Carson Rigg is committed to promoting a foundation for learning during her reign by encouraging young children to become successful readers, both in and out of school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Catherine Carson Rigg on winning the Miss Virginia Association of Fairs 2008 pageant; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER. That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Catherine Carson Rigg as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on her achievement.
