HJ261: Commending Hilda M. Barg.
Patrons-- Frederick, Lingamfelter, Marshall, R.G. and Nichols; Senators: Barker, Colgan, Puller and Stuart
WHEREAS, Hilda M. Barg, who retired at the end of her term in 2007, is commended for her 20 years of public service to the citizens of Prince William County; and
WHEREAS, a native of Prince William County, Hilda Barg was first elected to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors as the representative of the Woodbridge District in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Barg previously served as the vice-chair of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors; and she completed five terms as supervisor, serving the county on a variety of committees and councils, many of which focused on community social services for citizens in need; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Hilda Barg has given her time and many talents to numerous civic organizations, including as a board member for the Virginia Association of Counties, Potomac Hospital, Virginia Railway Express, Transportation Planning Board, Nation's Capital Girl Scouts Advisory Board, and Prince William Boys and Girls Club and as chair of the Prince William County Planning Committee; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Hilda Barg also served as an active member and leader on many work groups and committees for other civic entities, including the Virginia Municipal League, Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Barg received many awards and accolades during her tenure, including the opening in 1990 of the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center located in Woodbridge, a nonprofit organization named in her honor operated by the Volunteers of America Chesapeake under contract with the Prince William Department of Social Services, that celebrated its 15th anniversary of service to the community in 2005; and
WHEREAS, a retired businesswoman, Hilda Barg was the owner of a successful retail shoe store in Dumfries for many years; and
WHEREAS, committed to the prosperity, well-being, and best interests of her fellow citizens, Hilda Barg has been a tireless supporter of the Prince William County community; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Barg lives with her devoted husband in Prince William County, and she is looking forward to exploring new and exciting endeavors in her life and enjoying quality time with her wonderful family and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Hilda M. Barg on her 20 years of leadership and public service as a member of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hilda M. Barg as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her many achievements and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
