HJ34: Commending Dr. Robert Powell.
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Powell, as medical director and advisor to the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, is honored for his 26 years of continued dedication and outstanding service to the residents of Ashland and Hanover County; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert "Bob" Powell has served his community with tremendous skill and compassion, and will step down as medical director of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad to be succeeded by an esteemed colleague, Dr. John Salley; and
WHEREAS, besides his service to the volunteer rescue squad, Dr. Bob Powell is an exceptional, hard-working emergency room physician at St. Mary's Hospital; and he has been actively involved in public emergency management services (EMS) facilities as a director and in countless other capacities since he first began the practice of medicine; and
WHEREAS, for a quarter of a century, Dr. Bob Powell has witnessed public emergency services change and evolve over the years, and he has supported better training and advanced technology so that the members of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Hanover Fire-EMS Department may continue to provide the best quality EMS services possible; and
WHEREAS, an excellent mentor to the members of the emergency management community, Dr. Bob Powell has served the professionals and staff members of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad by providing, not only his vast knowledge and medical expertise, but also his patience, understanding, and unwavering support; and
WHEREAS, like the exemplary members of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, Dr. Bob Powell for 26 years, has been passionately committed to serving the people of Hanover County and "protecting lives and property through the provision of professional emergency medical services 24 hours a day"; and
WHEREAS, on March 15, 2007, Dr. Bob Powell was honored at a gala reception hosted by the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad and attended by a multitude of appreciative EMS professionals, volunteers, and staff members; his proud wife Pat and daughters Annie and Lizzie; the mayor of the Town of Ashland and officials of the Hanover Fire-EMS Department; and numerous friends and admirers from the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Dr. Robert Powell for his 26 years of outstanding service to the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad and the citizens of the Town of Ashland and Hanover County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Robert Powell as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for his continued commitment to providing quality EMS services in the Commonwealth
