SJ12: Celebrating the life of Marilyn L. Jones.
WHEREAS, Marilyn L. Jones of Norfolk, a respected citizen and outstanding community volunteer, died on November 3, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Jones grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, graduated with honors from Dunbar Senior High School of the Baltimore Public Schools, attended Morgan State University, and married Dr. Stephen C. Jones; and
WHEREAS, soon after college, Marilyn Jones became the executive assistant to the president of Management Trainers and Consultants, Inc., in Baltimore; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Jones’ great passion in life was to help children in need, and she joined Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and was instrumental in raising millions of dollars to help children with grave illnesses that were treated in the facility, and their families; and
WHEREAS, after living and working in Syracuse, New York, Marilyn and Dr. Jones moved to their new home in Norfolk, and immediately became actively involved in the community; and
WHEREAS, because of her love of children and her commitment to help them excel, Marilyn Jones was an excellent mentor and tutor of elementary school children in the Norfolk Public Schools for many years; and
WHEREAS, a strong, sensitive, and compassionate woman, Marilyn Jones gave her time and many talents to her church and her community and was always ready to help her fellow citizens in need; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Jones experienced great joy spending quality time with her own grandchildren, who called her “Mimi”; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn Jones will be fondly remembered for her boundless curiosity and enthusiasm for life’s many adventures and greatly missed by her devoted husband Stephen; her children Trishana and Jerrod and their wonderful families, including her grandchildren, John Eric, Nigel, and Gabriella; her mother Marion; and numerous other loving family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Marilyn L. Jones; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marilyn L. Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
