Celebrating the life of Geraldine Evans Bond.

WHEREAS, Geraldine Evans Bond of Norfolk, a respected citizen and beloved community supporter, died on June 25, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Bond was born in Waynesboro, Georgia, the daughter of the late Jerry Evans and Daisy Moore Green, married her devoted husband, Willie Isaac Bond, Sr., and the couple had three wonderful children, sons Willie Isaac Bond, Jr., and the late Thomas Wayne Bond and daughter, Dr. Debra Bond; and

WHEREAS, throughout her rich and rewarding life, Geraldine Bond was a self-employed seamstress, a certified nurse assistant, and a talented wedding cake designer and decorator; and

WHEREAS, no one she came in contact with remained a stranger to Geraldine Bond, and she touched the lives of countless people in the Hampton Roads community through her dedication and skill as a nurse assistant and seamstress, as well as through the cakes she lovingly created for clients, friends, and family; and

WHEREAS, always dedicated to her church and extended church family, Geraldine Bond was a former member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church and Mount Carmel Church; and

WHEREAS, an inspirational mentor to all who knew her, Geraldine Bond was currently a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church in Chesapeake, where she was a deaconess and enthusiastic member of the hospitality committee, Substance Abuse Ministry, Cancer Support Group, and Golden Age Support Group, as well as treasurer of the Prayer Band; and

WHEREAS, committed to enhancing the quality of life of her neighbors, Geraldine Bond was actively involved and received many accolades for her extensive work for the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Norfolk Section; the Daughters of Isis and Arabia, Temple No. 23; and the Order of Eastern Star of Virginia, Adeline Ward Chapter No. 197; and

WHEREAS, Geraldine Bond will be fondly remembered as a compassionate friend and loving wife and mother and greatly missed by her family, her numerous friends and admirers, and the congregation of Bethany Baptist Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Geraldine Evans Bond; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Geraldine Evans Bond as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
