WHEREAS, James Todd Jones, former mayor of Buena Vista, is commended for his service to the residents of Buena Vista; and

WHEREAS, a hard-working and dedicated attorney, James Jones began his law practice in Buena Vista in 1977 and worked diligently on behalf of his clients; and

WHEREAS, desiring to better the lives of all citizens of Buena Vista, James Jones ran for City Council and began serving in July 1998; he served as vice mayor from 2002 to 2004 and again from 2004 until his appointment as mayor in September 2005 to fill the vacancy left by then-Mayor Harold Kidd; and

WHEREAS, James Jones was elected mayor and served from 2006 to 2008; a longtime resident of Buena Vista, he served the city with great wisdom and industriousness; and

WHEREAS, James Jones worked to have several new facilities built, including the new Parry McCluer High School and the Vista Links Municipal Golf Course; he also facilitated the investment of $3.5 million to upgrade the aging water system and worked with Southern Virginia University personnel on zoning challenges; and

WHEREAS, James Jones has given generously of his time and talents to numerous boards, commissions, and committees in the community; and

WHEREAS, James Jones is to be commended for his wise and faithful stewardship of Buena Vista during his term as mayor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend James Todd Jones, former mayor of Buena Vista, for his outstanding service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James Todd Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and gratitude for his public service.
