Description

School calendar. Makes local school boards responsible for setting the school calendar and determining the opening of the school year and eliminates the post-Labor Day opening requirement and "good cause" scenarios for which the Board of Education might grant waivers of this requirement. Amends § 22.1-26 (“Joint and regional schools; regional public charter schools.”), § 22.1-296 (“Payment of employees; reimbursement for private transportation; certain sick leave policies.”), § 22.1-79.1 (“Opening of the school year; approvals for certain alternative schedules.”), of the Code of Virginia.
