Description

Setoff Debt Collection Act; setoff against federal tax refunds for local tax debt. Allows local governments, with the Department of Taxation's assistance, to collect past due local taxes from federal income tax returns. The provisions of the act will take effect on the effective date of federal legislation enacted by the United States Congress allowing such debt to be offset against federal income tax refunds. Amends § 58.1-520 (“(Contingent expiration \u2013 see Editor\u2019s note) Definitions.”), § 58.1-530 (“(Contingent expiration \u2013 see Editor\u2019s note) Priorities in claims to be setoff.”), of the Code of Virginia.
