HB722: Individual health insurance coverage; resident of State shall not be required to obtain a policy.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 38.2-3430.1:1 as follows:
§ 38.2-3430.1:1. Health insurance coverage; elective.
No resident of the Commonwealth, regardless of whether he has or is eligible for health insurance coverage under any policy or program provided by or through his employer or a plan sponsored by the Commonwealth or the federal government, shall be required to obtain or maintain individual health insurance coverage. No provision of this title shall render a resident of the Commonwealth liable for any penalty, assessment, fee, or fine as a result of his failure to obtain health insurance coverage.
