WHEREAS, Robert Latham Brundred Murray, M.D., F.A.C.S., of Earlysville, a respected citizen and a beloved and greatly admired physician, died tragically on November 29, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Robert Latham Brundred Murray was born on March 8, 1951, a cherished son of James B. Murray and Jean Brundred Murray, graduated from Albemarle High School in 1969, and received a bachelor?s degree in psychology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Latham Murray earned a medical degree from the University of Virginia in 1981; he completed an internship and residency at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, and a fellowship in non-cardiac thoracic surgery at East Birmingham Hospital in England; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Latham Murray worked as an attending surgeon in New York before joining the medical staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital in July 1995; and
WHEREAS, a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons and board certified in general surgery with accreditation in thoracic surgery, Dr. Latham Murray was a hardworking and dedicated member of CRL Surgical & Radiology Associates in Charlottesville; and
WHEREAS, a mentor and enthusiastic supporter of the medical community, Dr. Latham Murray generously gave his time and many talents to professional and civic organizations, including as a member of the Martha Jefferson Hospital board of trustees and chairman of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Latham Murray relished life and being a doctor, and he treated his patients and their loved ones with the utmost skill, compassion, and personal attention; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Latham Murray also enjoyed working and creating with his hands even away from the hospital, as a stone mason, tree surgeon, cabinetmaker, and writer; and
WHEREAS, a gifted surgeon and a devoted family man, Dr. Latham Murray will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 33 years, Langhorne King Murray; their five children, Brad, Wistar, Jack, Margaret, and Stephen; his parents, seven brothers, and numerous other loving family members; and his good friends and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the tragic loss of a fine physician and outstanding Virginian, Dr. Robert Latham Brundred Murray; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Robert Latham Brundred Murray as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
