HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 187 Commending the Mills E. Godwin High School boys' tennis team.

WHEREAS, the Mills E. Godwin High School boys? tennis team capped an outstanding season (21 - 1) by winning the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA state championship at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News on May 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mills Godwin High School of Henrico County defeated Robinson High School of Fairfax 5 - 2 in the state quarterfinals, Cox High School of Virginia Beach 5 - 0 in the state semifinals, and Deep Run High School of Henrico County 5 - 2 in the finals to secure their thirteenth state tennis championship; and

WHEREAS, on the way to the state tournament, Mills Godwin High School defeated Deep Run High School 5 - 4 in the Central Region championship, marking the team?s fifth consecutive regional title win; and

WHEREAS, Kyle Parker was the Colonial District singles champion for the fourth time, Central Region singles champion for the third time, and AAA singles runner-up; and Kyle Parker and Kevin McMillen were Colonial District doubles champions, the fourth time for Kyle; and Kyle Parker and Kevin McMillen were Central Region doubles champions, the fourth time for Kyle, and state doubles semifinalists; and

WHEREAS, other members of the hardworking 2009 Mills Godwin boys? tennis team were Tommy Barlow, Mike Baxter, David Caravati, Owen DeValk, Michael Holt, Thomas Hunold, Arjun Kathikeyan, Zack King, Scott Lancaster, Moss Levenson, Kevin McMillen, Suraj Mishra, Anthony Palesis, Kyle Parker, Ajay Sundar, and Alex Yachanin; and

WHEREAS, the championship performance of the 2009 Eagles is a tribute to the talent, commitment, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Tom Hoy and his assistant coaches Carl Loden and Eddie Parker; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Mills E. Godwin High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Mills E. Godwin High School Eagles on winning the 2009 VHSL Group AAA state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tom Hoy as an expression of the General Assembly?s admiration for the outstanding performance of the 2009 Mills E. Godwin High School boys? tennis team.
