HJ224: Commending St. Anne's-Belfield School boys' lacrosse team.

WHEREAS, in 2008 and 2009, the St. Anne?s-Belfield boys? lacrosse team won their sixth and seventh Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championships; and
WHEREAS, in 2008 St. Anne?s-Belfield defeated Norfolk Academy 8 - 7 in a thrilling double overtime game; senior Harry Snyder scored the winning goal to bring home the program?s first state championship since 2000; and
WHEREAS, the St. Anne?s-Belfield Saints were led by all-time leading scorer and All-American Jack Thomasson, who was selected as the tournament?s most valuable player; and
WHEREAS, the hard-working Saints started 2009 determined to repeat their success; the team had a remarkable season and defeated St. Stephen?s-St. Agnes School 9 - 8 for the program?s first back-to-back state championships; and
WHEREAS, three high school All-Americans, Howie Long, Austin Geisler, and the tournament?s most valuable player, Owen Van Arsdale, led the 2009 St. Anne?s-Belfield boys? lacrosse team in the exciting state championship game; and
WHEREAS, the St. Anne?s-Belfield Saints won their seventh Division I state championship with a record of 18 - 2 and finished the season ranked 40th nationally among over 3,000 high school teams; and
WHEREAS, the two consecutive state championship wins are due to the outstanding senior leadership and talented underclassmen; a dedicated coaching staff led by Head Coach Doug Tarring; and the support of the parents, faculty, and students of St. Anne?s-Belfield School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the St. Anne?s-Belfield School boys? lacrosse team for its two consecutive Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championship titles; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Athletic Director and former Head Coach Doug Tarring as an expression of the General Assembly?s congratulations on the team?s extraordinary seasons and championship performance.
