WHEREAS, the triumphant 2009 Thomas Dale High School football team capped an outstanding season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA, Division 6, state football championship on December 12, 2009, at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville; and
WHEREAS, the Thomas Dale High School Knights (12 - 2) defeated the Lake Braddock High School Bruins 35 - 21 to take home the Central Region?s first Group AAA, Division 6, state football championship before an enthusiastic crowd of thousands; and
WHEREAS, after scoring on the first drive, the Thomas Dale football team, led by quarterback Demetrius Campbell, continued with an aggressive offense throughout the game, led by Mike Edmunds, Airek Greene, and Demetrick Jackson; and
WHEREAS, the Knights totaled 245 yards on the ground, with 168 yards coming from running back Demetrick Jackson; and
WHEREAS, determined and tenacious, the Thomas Dale High School football team?s defense played one of its best games of the season and kept the Lake Braddock Bruins to 291 yards throughout the entire game; and
WHEREAS, the entire team, led by 21 seniors, worked diligently throughout the entire season and playoffs to bring home its first football championship title; and
WHEREAS, the exemplary performance of the 2009 Knights is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Vic Williams and his staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Thomas Dale High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Thomas Dale High School football team on its outstanding 2009 season and Group AAA, Division 6, state title; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Vic Williams as an expression of the General Assembly?s admiration for the championship performance of the Thomas Dale High School football team.
