WHEREAS, T. K. Weiler is commended on the occasion of his retirement as Fire Chief for the City of Williamsburg after 42 years of honorable service; and
WHEREAS, a native of Pennsylvania, T. K. ?Buz? Weiler proudly served in the United States Navy for five years as a machinist mate aboard the USS Little Rock, before moving to Williamsburg and joining the fire department; and
WHEREAS, five years after joining the fire department, Buz Weiler was recognized for his leadership skills and promoted to First Lieutenant, where he was responsible for the operation of a platoon of firefighters; and
WHEREAS, in 1976 Buz Weiler became Fire Captain and was charged with apparatus and station maintenance before becoming Assistant Chief in 1977, when he took on fire service training and duties associated with fire inspections; and
WHEREAS, in 1980 Buz Weiler assumed the duties of First Assistant Chief and when the fire chief retired in 1990, Buz Weiler became Acting Fire Chief until his appointment as Fire Chief in 1991; and
WHEREAS, under Buz Weiler?s direction, the fire department structure was reorganized and equipment modernized to meet the needs of the residents of the City of Williamsburg; and
WHEREAS, today, the fire department employs 37 paid personnel, 12 part-time on-call personnel, and about 40 volunteers, in addition to 50 Community Emergency Response Team members; and
WHEREAS, firefighters serve a vital role in our communities, providing important education and public safety services and Buz Weiler has overseen those services for the City of Williamsburg with great dedication, honor, and distinction; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend T. K. Weiler on the occasion of his retirement as Fire Chief for the City of Williamsburg; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to T. K. Weiler as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his years of service to the City of Williamsburg.
