WHEREAS, Julie Knight has ably served her community and fellow citizens during her three terms on the City of Fairfax School Board; and

WHEREAS, a resident of the city since 1994, Julie Knight has worked effectively with the public, parents, and other school board members to provide the best learning environment for the city?s students; and

WHEREAS, Julie Knight is a member of the Virginia School Boards Association and serves as a representative to the Washington Area Boards of Education; she is also a former member of the City School Board Advisory Group and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, Julie Knight earned a bachelor?s and master?s degree in home economics education from Texas Tech University, was a 1992 Leadership Fairfax graduate, and participated in the W.K. Kellogg Foundation National Youth Developers Institute; and

WHEREAS, Julie Knight brought a wealth of experience in working with children, youth, and family issues to her terms on the school board; she worked as an extension agent with the Texas and Virginia Cooperative Extension Service for nine years, where she was responsible for developing and securing funding to establish local programs for at-risk youth; and

WHEREAS, an admired and inspirational leader, Julie Knight worked for the establishment of the Fairfax Partnership for Youth, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997, and also was coordinator of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and School Board ?Community Initiative to Reduce Youth Violence,? the predecessor to the partnership; and

WHEREAS, Julie Knight served as interim director of Children?s Ministries at Vienna Presbyterian Church and currently serves as a grants administrator at Northern Virginia Family Service; and

WHEREAS, Julie Knight has generously given of her time and talents in the community as a member of the Parent Teacher Association at Daniels Run, Providence, and Mosby Woods elementary schools, Fairfax Community Coalition, the Fairfax Faith Communities in Action Youth Task Force, and the Fairfax County 4-H Youth Program; and

WHEREAS, a knowledgeable and admired leader, Julie Knight worked diligently on behalf of the students of the City of Fairfax school system during her three terms on the school board; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Julie Knight for her outstanding service and devotion as a member of the City of Fairfax School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Julie Knight as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect and gratitude for her work on behalf of the children and youth of the City of Fairfax.
