WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff, a dedicated husband, father, and community leader from Hampton, died on October 22, 2009; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Hampton High School, R. Wendell Midkiff worked as a floor referee at Skateland Roller Rink and later for Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1966; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and hard-working employee, R. Wendell Midkiff served as an electronic technician and supervisor of the Audio-Visual Branch at Fort Monroe for 32 years; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff was a passionate musician and played the guitar in several rock bands, including The Echoes, The Lancers, and Autumn; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff served as a contract sound engineer for the Busch Gardens Concert Series from 1977 to 1992, where he had the exciting opportunity to work with famous entertainment acts; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff generously gave of his time and talents in the community as he held various positions with the Northampton Civic League, NAGE R4-11 Union, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff also worked with the Boy Scouts, where he helped young men grow and develop into responsible, productive citizens; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff lived his faith through his works and as a 57-year member of West Hampton Baptist Church, where he was actively involved in the church?s many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, R. Wendell Midkiff will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sandra; son, Jared; sister, Sonia; and numerous other friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community leader and outstanding Virginian, R. Wendell Midkiff; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of R. Wendell Midkiff as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
