Commending Imam Mohamed Magid and Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk.

WHEREAS, Imam Mohamed Magid and Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk were honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2010 Best of Reston Award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Imam Mohamed Magid of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) and Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk of the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation continually reach out to each other and to each other?s congregants, establishing an honest dialogue between their faith communities and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Imam Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk have hosted numerous programs to raise awareness of issues important to both Islam and Judaism and to build cooperation and understanding between congregations; and

WHEREAS, during times of trouble, Imam Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk ask their congregations to stand together as one group against hatred and bigotry; and

WHEREAS, Imam Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk have worked hard to set aside their differences and to slowly and steadily build a partnership that allows them and their members to share facilities and programs; and

WHEREAS, Imam Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk and their congregations have received national and international recognition in the news media, including by ABC, NBC, Fox News, and Al Jazeera, the Washington Post, and the Associated Press; and

WHEREAS, Imam Magid and Rabbi Nosanchuk were named as 2010 Washingtonians of the Year by Washingtonian magazine; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Imam Mohamed Magid and Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk and their congregations on their outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on their well-deserved honor as 2010 Best of Reston Award recipients; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Imam Mohamed Magid and Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk as an expression of the General Assembly?s appreciation of their many achievements on behalf of the community of Reston and best wishes for continued success in their mission.
