HJ36: Celebrating the life of Sergeant Major Lawrence T. Parker.

WHEREAS, retired United States Marine Corps Reserve Sergeant Major Lawrence T. ?Tom? Parker, a 34-year veteran of the Henrico County Division of Police, died on July 5, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Tom Parker was born in Triangle, Virginia, on October 25, 1950, to loving parents James D. Parker, Sr., and Dorothy Parker and was one of three brothers; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and respected police officer, Tom Parker served as a uniform patrol supervisor, SWAT team member for 25 years, gun range instructor for 29 years, instructor on military deportment to police academies for seven years, and member of the Honor Guard for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Tom Parker, who served Henrico County with great honor and loyalty, received two Medals of Valor from the Henrico County Division of Police, one Citation, and numerous Letters of Compliment and Appreciation; and

WHEREAS, Tom Parker served valiantly in the United States Marine Corps Reserve until his retirement in 2001, including in combat operations in Iraq and Kuwait during operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield; and

WHEREAS, Tom Parker received a Navy Commendation Medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, five Marine Corps Reserve Medals, two National Defense Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, and a Congressional Veteran Commendation in conjunction with the Veterans History Project sponsored by the Library of Congress; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary role model, Tom Parker protected the citizens of Henrico County and valiantly and courageously defended his country for many decades; and

WHEREAS, Tom Parker will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Cindy; children Christina, L.T., and Kelley and their families, including his two beloved grandchildren; and other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding law-enforcement officer and patriotic Virginian, Lawrence T. Parker; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lawrence T. Parker as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
