WHEREAS, Donald T. Wood, a dedicated public servant and longtime treasurer of Amherst County, retired on December 31, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Donald Wood went to work early in life to help his family after his father?s death and began his service in the treasurer?s office on July 1, 1962; he became treasurer in January 1972; and

WHEREAS, Donald Wood saw phenomenal growth and changes during his tenure in office; Amherst County?s population grew as did the budget and staff; and

WHEREAS, during his 47-year tenure, Donald Wood oversaw the transition from a completely manual system of managing the county?s finances to a fully computerized one and worked to provide a high level of customer service to the citizens of Amherst County; and

WHEREAS, a man of great integrity and attention to detail, Donald Wood has been a faithful steward of the County?s financial resources for almost half a century; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the well-being of his fellow citizens, Donald Wood has generously given of his time and talents in the community as a 48-year member of the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department, member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, and former coach of Little League baseball; and

WHEREAS, Donald Wood demonstrated great integrity, professionalism, and commitment to service during his tenure as treasurer of Amherst County; and

WHEREAS, Donald Wood looks forward to spending more time with his family, including his beloved wife of 46 years, June; their two sons; and six grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Donald T. Wood; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donald T. Wood as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his contributions to Amherst County.
