Commending Colonial Baptist Church on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Colonial Baptist Church was started in June of 1980 in Stafford County by Pastor Mickey Creed and Mrs. Barbara Creed with Virginia Cushion, Chuck Traywick, and Rose Traywick, and originally met in a rented building near the Stafford County Courthouse; and

WHEREAS, the Church was officially chartered on the first Sunday of October 1980, and soon thereafter began holding meetings in the Stafford County Courthouse; and

WHEREAS, Colonial Baptist Church expanded its services by forming a music program with several choirs and offering Sunday school classes, Wednesday evening prayer services, Adult Bible Fellowships, teen ministries, Vacation Bible School, the Master?s Club for children, and other programs; and

WHEREAS, over the years under the leadership of the dedicated pastor, deacons, and teachers, Colonial Baptist Church grew, requiring additional property to be purchased and a new building was built in 1987 to accommodate its expanding membership and ministry; and

WHEREAS, Colonial Baptist Church began Colonial Academy in September of 1987 to provide educational opportunities for children, and over the years Colonial Academy has expanded and currently provides classes for K3 through 8th grade under the leadership of Academy Administrator Miriam Young; and

WHEREAS, during the 1990s, Colonial Baptist Church?s teen basketball team won several Stafford County Church League Championships led by excellent players such as Joe Creed, Scott Lingo, Jesse Cole, and Tim Creed; and

WHEREAS, Colonial Baptist Church has maintained a tradition of service to the community and the world through ministering to individuals and supporting 55 missionary projects; and

WHEREAS, the members of Colonial Baptist Church use their talents and gifts to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of the community under the current leadership of its pastor and church leaders including deacons Sam Evans, Jeff Cline, Jonathan Stark, and Richard Williams; music director Anna Garlem; head usher Jack Cave; adult Bible fellowship coordinator Mike Garlem; children?s fellowship coordinator Dawn Ross; nursery coordinator Sharon Pennifield; and bookkeeper Renee Stark; and

WHEREAS, Colonial Baptist Church has provided many valuable services and has proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the community for 30 years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Colonial Baptist Church on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Colonial Baptist Church as an expression of the General Assembly?s gratitude for the church?s commitment to the citizens of Stafford County and the Commonwealth.
