WHEREAS, Mary Lotz Kauffmann, a devoted wife and mother, and a woman of deep and abiding Roman Catholic faith, passed from this life in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection, on February 1, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends at the St. Joseph's Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor; and
WHEREAS, a native of Virginia Beach, Mary Kauffmann made her life and her home in Richmond, Virginia, together with her beloved husband of many years, Richard Xavier Kauffmann, who had preceded her in passing; and
WHEREAS, throughout the 97 years of her long and fruitful life, Mary Kauffmann was a steadfast and devoted daughter of the Church, who sought to love, honor, and serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, by loving, honoring, and serving the least of his brothers whom she encountered in the community; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kauffmann's heroic, longsuffering, and dignified response to her declining health, advancing age, and the inevitable physical hardships and suffering they inflicted, were a testimony to her steadfast faith, and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kauffmann will be greatly missed by her three loving sons, the Reverend James F. Kauffmann, S.S.L., Pastor, Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Richmond, Virginia, Richard X. Kauffmann, Jr., and Vincent Paul Kauffmann, both of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of Mary Lotz Kauffmann; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mary Lotz Kauffmann as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
