WHEREAS, Teresa Keller, an exemplary professor of mass communications at Emory & Henry College, received a 2010 Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; and

WHEREAS, only the best of the Commonwealth?s faculty at public and private colleges and universities receive the prestigious Outstanding Faculty Award, which recognizes superior accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service; and

WHEREAS, under Dr. Keller?s leadership, the Mass Communications Department at Emory & Henry College has grown from a few courses in the English Department to one of the largest and most successful departments on the campus; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Keller encourages all of her students to excel in all their endeavors; she is equally demanding of herself; and

WHEREAS, in order to keep abreast of developments in her field since she left active reporting, Dr. Keller applied for and won a place in the competitive ?Excellence in Journalism? program run by the Radio-Television News Directors Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Keller worked for a month at KCNC-TV, a CBS affiliate in Denver, as a working journalist tracking breaking stories; and

WHEREAS, respected and admired by her colleagues, Dr. Keller is an active member of the Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) and has regularly attended VAB Congressional Luncheons to assist in educating members of Congress on various industry matters; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Keller is the author of Television News: A Handbook on Writing, Reporting, Shooting, and Editing and has contributed numerous articles to various publications throughout her career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Keller is a sought-after presenter and has received numerous awards and accolades for her accomplishments, including the 2003 Carnegie/CASE Virginia Professor of the Year; and

WHEREAS, committed to excellence for herself and her students, Dr. Keller?s influence on her students, Emory & Henry College, and her profession is far-reaching; her students have won more than 20 state-level awards, four Emmy awards, and two Pulitzer Prize nominations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Teresa Keller on her well-deserved Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Teresa Keller as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect and admiration for her commitment to quality education in the Commonwealth.
