WHEREAS, Jessie Lee Lewis of Roanoke, an admirable citizen and respected community supporter, died on May 6, 2009; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Roanoke, Jessie Lee Lewis remained steadfastly devoted to his community, the Commonwealth, and his fellow citizens throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Jessie Lee Lewis married the love of his life, Elizabeth Vinyard Lewis, and the happy couple were together for nearly 63 years; they had four wonderful children, including the late Rodney Lee Lewis; and

WHEREAS, always willing to help his neighbors in need, Jessie Lee Lewis was a leader and faithful member of Sweet Union Baptist Church and was active in the church?s many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Jessie Lee Lewis will be fondly remembered for his integrity, his zest for life, and his kind and generous nature; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Jessie Lee Lewis will be greatly missed by his wife, Elizabeth Vinyard Lewis; his daughter, Chrystella Lewis; his sons, Adrian Lewis and Gary Lewis, and their wives; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community supporter and outstanding Virginian, Jessie Lee Lewis; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jessie Lee Lewis as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
