SJ111: Celebrating the life of Christine Ann Cooke.
WHEREAS, Christine Ann Cooke of Louisa County, a respected citizen and beloved community leader, died on December 6, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Christine Cooke was born on January 13, 1936, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of George and Theresa Hawkins; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and cheerful volunteer, Christine Cooke generously gave her time and talents as a member and officer of numerous local, national, and international organizations, including the local housing board and other civic committees, Crime Solvers, and the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, an inspiration to all who knew her well, Christine Cooke was an excellent speaker, teacher, and life coach; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 73, Christine Cooke was a lifelong learner, amazing her friends and colleagues with her command of the Internet, and she touched the lives of hundreds of people through her webpage, email, Facebook, iSeeColor, and Twitter accounts; and
WHEREAS, Christine Cooke was a leader and faithful member of Saint Jude Catholic Church and was active in the church?s many missions in the community; and
WHEREAS, Christine Cooke participated and helped organize missions to help people in need at home in Louisa County and as far away as Saudi Arabia and Europe; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Christine Cooke received many awards and accolades for her many contributions to her community, including the Volunteers of Louisa?s prestigious John O. von Hemert Volunteer Spirit Award; and
WHEREAS, Christine Cooke will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and greatly missed by her devoted husband of 51 years, Stuart W. Cooke, USAF Ret.; her children and their families, Mary Washington and husband Ernest, Denise Taliaferro and husband Marvin, Stuart Cooke, Jr., and wife Wanda, and Barbara Dauphin and husband Ronald; her 10 grandchildren; and her many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Christine Ann Cooke; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Christine Ann Cooke as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for her memory.
