Celebrating the life of Sergeant Paul E. Dumont, Jr., USA.

WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Paul E. Dumont, Jr., of Williamsburg, died on August 19, 2009, at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in a non-combat-related incident while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Paul Dumont was born on September 19, 1985, and greatly admired his father, who also served in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Jamestown High School, Sergeant Dumont enlisted in the Army in August 2004 and was stationed at Fort Eustis, where he was assigned to the 149th Transportation Company, 10th Transportation Battalion; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Dumont completed his training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and served in Iraq from October 2005 to October 2006, and began his tour of duty in Afghanistan in March of 2009; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Dumont received several awards and campaign medals during his career, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Driver?s Mechanic Badge, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Bronze Star Medal; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Dumont had a lively sense of humor and loved to entertain and spend time with his family and friends, who will remember his love of country music and the outdoors and his commitment to serving his country; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Dumont will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Candice; his parents; his six siblings; and his numerous other family members, friends, and fellow soldiers; and

WHEREAS, the death of Sergeant Dumont is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm?s way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a greatly patriotic Virginian, Sergeant Paul E. Dumont, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Paul E. Dumont, Jr., as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
