SJ28: Celebrating the life of David Kenneth Lisk.
WHEREAS, David Kenneth Lisk of Roanoke, a dedicated community servant, died on May 25, 2009; and
WHEREAS, a native of Rome, New York, David Lisk received a bachelor?s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester and proudly served his country as a pilot and flight instructor in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, David Lisk?s job in sales brought him to Roanoke, a city that he fell in love with and devoted himself to serving; and
WHEREAS, David Lisk served as a city council member from 1966 until 1976, including two years as vice mayor, and on the Roanoke City School Board during the 1980s; he was known and respected in the city for his honesty and concern for the well-being of Roanoke; and
WHEREAS, David Lisk believed strongly in the power of individuals to influence world events and this commitment led him to volunteer for 45 years with the Sister Cities organization, which promotes world peace through person-to-person relationships; and
WHEREAS, David Lisk worked diligently to help form Roanoke?s first sister city with Wonju, Korea, in 1964; today, Roanoke has seven sister cities; and
WHEREAS, David Lisk generously gave of his time and talents to other organizations in the Roanoke area, including the Roanoke Jaycees, Roanoke Kiwanis Club, Roanoke Valley Breakfast Lion?s Club, and the Roanoke Valley American Heart Association; and
WHEREAS, a humble man with great compassion, David Lisk lived his faith through his lifetime of service and involvement with St. Elizabeth?s Episcopal Church; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, David Lisk will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean; his three sons, Timothy, Thomas, and Robert and their families; and his numerous other family members, friends, and the Roanoke community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding community servant, David Kenneth Lisk; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of David Kenneth Lisk as an expression of the General Assembly?s respect for his memory.
