Description

Defense of police officers. Clarifies that the existing provision requiring the Superintendent of State Police to pay for any special counsel employed for the defense of a state police officer does not apply until the completion of the proceeding or investigation requiring the defense, at which time the Superintendent will be required to pay for the counsel out of Department of State Police funds if it was found that the officer did not violate any law or regulation and will not be terminated. Alternatively, if the officer is found guilty or will be terminated from employment as a result of the act, the officer will be required to pay for the special counsel. The bill also requires that an officer request in writing that special counsel be employed. Read the Bill »
