Commending Dr. Frank McCue III.
Patrons—Toscano, BaCote, and Bell; Senator: Deeds

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank McCue III has been invaluable in making athletic participation safer for the youth of the Commonwealth and the nation; and

WHEREAS, for over 40 years, Frank McCue has served as the team orthopedic surgeon for the University of Virginia athletic department; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue is recognized as a founding father of athletic training and sports medicine both in Virginia and the nation and is an outstanding medical practitioner and an innovative orthopedic hand specialist and plastic surgeon; and

WHEREAS, as a professor of orthopedics and plastic surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Frank McCue trained numerous medical doctors in the specialty of sports medicine; and

WHEREAS, a highly acclaimed lecturer, professor, and surgeon, Frank McCue has traveled extensively throughout the Commonwealth and the country teaching sports medicine; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue is highly respected and recognized as an authority in sports medicine by professional coaches, teams, and players, and is often called upon as a medical consultant or to perform specialized surgery; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue worked to organize the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association and to give the association credibility in the medical community; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue has been recognized for his outstanding contributions by many professional organizations, including the Virginia High School League, the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, The Medical Society of Virginia, and The American College of Sports Medicine, which inducted him into its Sports Medicine Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, friends and colleagues honored Frank McCue with the establishment of the McCue Society and the construction of the McCue Building on the campus of the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue has faithfully served on the sidelines, in the classroom, in the operating room, and as a distinguished ambassador for the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Frank McCue has retired, but remains active in the life of the university and resides in Charlottesville with his wife Nancy and their children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dr. Frank McCue III on his long and exceptional career; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Frank McCue III as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his outstanding service to the citizens of the Commonwealth and best wishes for a joyful retirement.
