Celebrating the life of Kenneth Yewell Stiles.

WHEREAS, Kenneth "Ken" Yewell Stiles of Clearbrook, a dairy farmer for 38 years and former member of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, died May 6, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Ken Stiles was born March 11, 1944, in Rockville, Maryland, graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a degree in dairy science, and moved with his family when they transported their large cattle operation to Virginia in 1967; and

WHEREAS, Ken Stiles became an excellent dairyman and the family's Waverly Farm was renowned for its Jersey cattle; and

WHEREAS, Waverly Farm was awarded 15 times as Premier Breeder and 10 times as Premier Exhibitor at the All American Jersey Show, three times as Premier Exhibitor at the World Dairy Exhibition, 10 times as the National Jersey Dairy Cattle Grand Champion, the American Jersey Cattle Club Master Breeder award, and the National Dairy Shrine Distinguished Dairy Cattle Breeder; and

WHEREAS, Ken Stiles was awarded numerous individual awards, including the Outstanding Young Jersey Dairyman award, the W. Ray Murley VA Distinguished Dairyman award, and the Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer award; and

WHEREAS, active in numerous civic and professional organizations, Kenneth Stiles served as chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors from 1978-91; as president of the Stonewall District Ruritan Club, the Frederick County Farm Bureau, and the Virginia Purebred Dairy Cattle Association; as vice president of the Virginia Jersey Cattle Club and the Frederick County Youth Fair; and as vice-chairman and dairy department chairman of the Tri-County Virginia Opportunities Industrialization Center; and

WHEREAS, Ken Stiles, founder and enthusiastic leader of the Frederick County Young Republican Club candidly expressed his political views; and he will be remembered for remaining steadfast to his convictions throughout his lifetime and a true party-builder who inspired participation in the political process; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Stiles will be missed by his family, his numerous friends and colleagues, and the citizens of Frederick County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Kenneth Yewell Stiles; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kenneth Yewell Stiles as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
