Commending the McLean Little League girls’ all-star softball team.
Patrons-- Howell, Colgan, O'Brien, Potts, Puller, Saslaw, Ticer and Whipple; Delegates: Amundson, Brink, Bulova, Callahan, Caputo, Eisenberg, Englin, Hull, Marsden, McQuigg, Plum, Poisson, Rust, Scott, J.M., Sickles and Watts

WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year, the McLean Little League girls' all-star softball team represented Virginia in the final game of the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon; and

WHEREAS, the 2005 McLean all-stars outdid their 2004 counterparts by capturing the Little League World Series title, the first Little League World Series softball title for a Virginia team; and

WHEREAS, the McLean team, comprised of 11- and 12-year-old players from the McLean Little League, earned its trip to Portland by winning district, state, and regional tournaments; and

WHEREAS, in the Virginia state tournament, contested at Tazewell Little League, the McLean team went undefeated, beating teams from Bennett's Creek, Aragona Pembroke, Bridgewater, and Tuckahoe Little Leagues to capture its second straight state championship; and

WHEREAS, against stronger competition in the Southeast Regional tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida, McLean again came through, winning the title in extra innings against the local favorites from Bloomingdale, Florida; and

WHEREAS, managed by Gary Falle and coached by Gary Bell and Joe Giaquinto, the McLean all-star softball team prevailed in a World Series competition that started with more than 3,000 teams competing around the globe; and

WHEREAS, the McLean players, only one of whom was a member of the 2004 team, were Jamie Bell, Kristina Bettner, Jilly Falle, Sophie Giaquinto, Carolyn Gilbertson, Katalina Khoury, Mandy Moll, Gen Mulligan, Alex Nihill, Abby Petersen, Jessie Straub, and Julia Weeks; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding success of the McLean softball all-stars is a tribute to the talent and dedication of the players, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the enthusiastic support of the McLean community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the McLean Little League girls' all-star softball team on its Little League World Series championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Manager Gary Falle as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the historic success of the 2005 McLean Little League girls' all-star softball team.
