Commemorating the 275th anniversary of the birth of George Washington.

WHEREAS, February 22, 2007, is the 275th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, the father of our nation and the protector of liberties; and

WHEREAS, the high standards established by George Washington's steadfast character and devotion to duty have inspired generations of Americans, and continue to inspire men and women in the service of their country and in the conduct of their private lives; and

WHEREAS, patriotic, educational, and civic organizations across the nation are joining together to create research and educational programs relating to George Washington's life and his legacy to the nation, and are encouraging all Americans to participate in the observance of this important anniversary; and

WHEREAS, the achievements of George Washington and the examples set by his conduct and selfless love of his country have been and will continue to be an invaluable legacy for the future of the United States and the world; and

WHEREAS, the Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, an organization of lineal descendents of the patriots of the American Revolution, encourages public observances of George Washington's 275th birthday to commemorate his life and character as it relates to the future of the nation and the welfare of free people everywhere; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commemorate the 275th anniversary of the birth of George Washington; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Colonel Fielding Lewis Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their efforts to promote patriotism and educate citizens about the sacrifices of our nation's forefathers.
